Traceability — production tracking

Piece by piece, in real time: manufacturing traceability from manual workstations to automated production lines, with OEE reports and integration with enterprise systems including SAP — MES-class system, a layer between production and the enterprise system. The whole monitoring runs in a web interface with no licence limits on the number of screens or users.

We approach SCADA as developers: we integrate with existing systems — WinCC or Siemens — build our own add-ons on top of them and develop solutions where off-the-shelf systems are not enough. In operation and under development at an engineering company since 2019.

Item by item, you know what happened to it

Traceability from a manual workstation to an automated production line. A record remains for every piece — when it went through an operation, with what result and who was working on it.

What production traceability is

Traceability means knowing for every part when, where, by whom and how it was made — and for every workstation, how it actually performs. Paper reports are replaced by real-time records and management sees OEE, downtime and line performance immediately, not at the end of the month.

SCADA add-on — monitoring without licence limits

Traditional SCADA platforms are licensed by the number of data points and clients — for smaller operations that is expensive and inflexible. Our traceability runs as a web application: an unlimited number of users, access from the office and from a mobile, with no installations. That is why we call it SCADA add-on — it does what you expect from a SCADA layer for monitoring and visualisation, but in a browser and without licences for data points. This is not the supply of a control system: we do not control the machines, we only read data from them and from existing systems.

Who it is intended for: CNC and machining operations, manual and assembly workstations, small and medium-sized factories, semi-automatic production lines — everywhere a conventional SCADA is not worth it, but production needs a real-time overview and proof of performance.

Two modes, one system

  • Manual (operator) traceability — tablets with code readers on CNC machines, grinders and manual workstations; the operator reports production, downtime and faults with a few taps.
  • Automatic (machine) traceability — direct integration with the line PLC; the records of work done run without any operator input.

Both modes come together in a single web dashboard with OEE, staff statistics and reports for dispatch — with integration to SAP and attendance systems.

A terminal at the machine instead of paper

The operator confirms the operation on the terminal by the production line. What would otherwise end up on paper is a record straight away — and the shift report writes itself.

Completed deployments

  • Manufacturing information system with traceability — an engineering company, in operation and under development since 2019; real-time OEE and SAP integration.
  • Monitoring of a semi-automatic production line — automatic recording of output with manual reporting and reports for dispatch.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a SCADA system in order to deploy traceability?
No. We can deploy traceability even where there is no control system — we obtain the data directly from the machines, from code readers at the workstation or from operator entry. If you do have SCADA or a PLC, we connect to them and the records run automatically.
Is it worth it for a smaller operation with a few machines?
Yes — that is where the effect is usually most visible. Classic SCADA and MES solutions are licensed by data points and clients, which prices a smaller operation out. Our web-based solution has no such limits, so it makes sense even with a handful of machines and manual workstations.
How long does deployment take and will it disrupt our production?
We start with a pilot at one workstation or production line so that you see real data before you decide on the whole shop floor. Data acquisition runs in parallel with production — the installation of sensors and terminals is planned for a shutdown or a break.
Can we also get the data into our ERP?
Yes. We have implemented a two-way link from production monitoring to SAP ERP and to the attendance system — orders and standards flow into production, and completed work flows back into the ERP without manual re-entry.
Who can see how individual operators work?
You decide the scope of access. The system can show workstation performance without naming and rating individuals, or personnel statistics for supervisors as well — depending on how your internal rules and your agreement with employees are set.
